About Learning Resources

We are a 150-person strong, family-owned company on a mission to educate kids, empower teachers, and inspire parents.  We do that by creating educational toys and games that make learning more fun, more interactive and more accessible.  For the last 30 years, our award-winning products have helped millions of children reach their full potential and we're just getting started.

We're seeking an Industrial Designer who is energetic, creative, organized, resourceful, smart, and thrives in a collaborative environment. (A good sense of humor helps, too!) This designer will work with the lead designer and product managers to brainstorm, design, and bring products to life. This designer is someone who can turn projects around quickly, but dig into a topic or problem to find innovative solutions. For this role, we're looking for someone with sketching skills, an ability to model concepts in 3D (Rhino preferred), generate renderings in KeyShot and create specification packets for vendors. As an Industrial Designer with Learning Resources, you will be involved in projects from beginning to end.

Scope of Responsibilities:

- Assist the product development team in the overall design and development of product lines.

- Effectively communicate ideas through sketches, mock-ups, 3D CAD and renderings.

- Prepare 3D printed mock-ups (MakerBot+), paper/foam mock-ups, and product specification packets as necessary.

- Expand on concepts to give a variety of solutions.

- Add to, and compile, a research database of product competition, trends in education and mass market, design, and new technology.

- Create compelling product presentation slides.

- BS/BA in Industrial Design, Toy Design or equivalent.

- 1-2 years of professional experience.

- Excellent sketching, rendering, and graphic design skills.

- Proficient in Adobe Creative suite, specifically Illustrator and Photoshop.

- Knowledge of 3D CAD (Rhinoceros preferred) and KeyShot.

- 3D printing experience a plus.

- Knowledge of plastic materials and general manufacturing process.

- Portfolio demonstrating innovative thinking with on-trend designs in consumer products, preferably with some toy design.

Ideal Attributes

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

- Ability to work autonomously and in a team environment.

- A basic understanding of (or interest in) mechanical designs.

- An illustrative/graphic style.

- Strong time management skills.

- Solid analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to produce creative solutions.

- Accepting of constructive criticism and feedback.
